Crispy Brussel Sprouts

Are you wondering how to cook Brussels sprouts? Then this post is for you. There are many ways to cook sprouts. Some of these ways include roasting or baking. While roasted brussel sprouts or baked Brussels sprouts can be delightful, our recipe is cooked on the stovetop. In our opinion, this method is quicker and just as good as cooking in the oven. That is why this Crispy Brussel Sprouts with Caraway Seeds side dish is our all-time favorite way to eat this vegetable, as a Vegan Recipe.

As you can see, we are using caraway seeds as our spice. Caraway Seeds also go by the names Persian Cumin and Meridian Fennel. The flavor is similar to mild anise. There is something about this combo that works so well in this recipe.

Now onto our Brussel Sprouts Side Dish Recipe

Crispy Brussel Sprouts Ingredients

  • Brussel Sprouts – 1 Pound
  • Salt – To Taste
  • Caraway Seeds – 1 Teaspoon
  • Olive Oil – Up to 2 Tablespoons

Prepare Crispy Brussel Sprouts

Once you have washed the brussel sprouts, cut off the hard end and discard.

Next, remove the first set of leaves surrounding the sprouts and discard.

Now, slice the sprouts into thin rings. The thinner the brussel sprouts are cut, the more crispy they become. Do not worry if the sprouts do not remain completely in rings, it just adds to their crispiness.


Brussel Sprouts Cut Into Thin Rings

For this step, heat one tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet pan over medium heat.

Once the oil is hot, reduce to low. The lower setting allows the sprouts to brown while eliminating burning.

Add the brussel sprouts at this time. Stir the sprouts frequently to prevent burning.


Add Sprouts to Heated Pan

If while cooking the sprouts appear dry, add up to one more tablespoon of olive oil.

When about half of the brussel sprouts have browned, add the one teaspoon of caraway seeds and stir. The seeds can burn easily, so continue stirring frequently.

Once all has browned and has become your desired crispiness, remove from the heat.

Since your pan is hot, the sprouts will continue cooking. Consequently, remove from the hot pan to prevent additional cooking.


Crispy Brussel Sprouts

Salt to taste.

Serve Hot.
