We just love spicy food, and we love kale as well. By combining the two, we have come up with our favorite way to eat kale. This Spicy Kale Recipe can be as mild or as hot as you desire because you control how much red pepper flakes to add to the dish. This has become one of our favorite kale recipes, and we hope it becomes your favorite as well.

Let’s start with a little information about kale for those who want to learn more about this often-misunderstood vegetable.

What is Kale?

Kale, also known as leaf cabbage, is a cultivator of cabbage. It does not form a head like cabbage. This superfood vegetable is considered to be more closely related to wild cabbage.

Eating kale can cut calories since each cup of raw kale is only about 33 calories. To keep the kale calories low, make sure to add as little fats and oils as possible.

Kale Nutrition and Kale Benefits

As mentioned above, kale calories are only 33 per cup when raw. This superfood has more iron per ounce than beef. It’s full of vitamins such as Folate, K, A, and C. Kale has about 2.5 grams of fiber as well and nearly 3 grams of protein. Kale, like other leafy greens, has been known to lower cholesterol.

Spicy Kale Recipe

Spicy Kale Recipe Ingredients

  • Kale – One Bunch of Green Curly – Torn into 1-inch pieces
  • Garlic – 4 Cloves – Chopped
  • Onion – Medium – Chopped
  • Red Pepper Flakes – ¼ – ½ teaspoon
  • Water – 1 Tablespoon
  • Olive Oil – 1 Teaspoon
  • Lemon – ¼ Juiced

How to Prepare the Recipe 

  1. Heat Olive Oil in pan on medium heat.
  2. Sautee the chopped onion and garlic until the onion is translucent and the garlic begins to brown.20190603_165834
  3. While the onion and garlic cook, wash then remove the kale from the stems. Tear into 1-inch sized pieces.20190603_164348
  4. Now, lower heat and add the kale to the onion and garlic mixture and stir.20190603_170115
  5. Add the tablespoon of water to help cook down the kale.
  6. Once the kale is to your desired texture, add the juice from ¼ of a lemon.
  7. Stir and cook until the lemon juice cooks off. This takes very little time.
  8. Remove from heat and add the red pepper flakes. Start with a smaller amount; you can always add more.20190603_170659
